Job Title: After School Student Facilitator
Status: Part-Time Weekly on Tuesdays or Thursdays (Depends on School Site)
Term: Temporary Contract, 9/9/2024 - 6/5/2025
Holiday Breaks: Coincide with the Berkeley School Dist.
Reports To: Program Director & Program Coordinator
Monthly Stipend: $300
Location: Berkeley, Ca (Exact school site for each Facilitator TBD upon hire)
JOB SUMMARY
Assist with facilitating the weekly Black Girls United After School Program at one of the three middle schools - Longfellow, King, and Willard - and two high schools - Berkeley High and Berkeley Tech Academy - in the Berkeley Unified School District to teach Black girls solidarity, empowerment, and confidence through enriching curriculum, mentorship, and activities.

STUDENT FACILITATOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Report to Program Director and Program Coordinator
Work directly with students in middle and/or high school to provide empowering, fun, and interactive lessons that will teach girls about self-reflection, empowerment, and solidarity.
Assist in the planning, organization, and implementation of Black Girl United curriculum & activities
Assist in the organization and facilitation of Black Girl Reading Circles at Berkeley Elementary Schools (each one teach one)
Provide mentorship and guidance to Black Girls United participants in group and 1-on-1 settings
Help monitor student behavior and interactions
Maintain records and prepare reports to summarize weekly gatherings; Administer surveys and collect data on participants to measure progress and growth
Participate in staff meetings, training, and occasional partner collaborations and events
Develop and maintain effective working relationships involving interactions and communications by phone and in writing with a variety of individuals and/or groups from diverse backgrounds on a regular, ongoing basis
Ability to work effectively under pressure on a variety of tasks concurrently while meeting established deadlines and changing priorities
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements and Experience:
18-35 years old
Have a heart for and an ability to work with and mentor middle and high school age Black girls
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of issues regarding the students and their experiences such as anti-blackness, internalized oppression, and decolonization as well as cultural and ethnic issues (e.g. stereotypes, colorism, hyper-independence)
Desire to learn about mental health, cultural competency, and other issues pertaining to the Black girl community
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
Enrolled in college (Community College or University) or an equivalent program/organization
At least 1 - 2 years of related experience, such as leadership or after school program or student club involvement
Excellent written, verbal, and communication skills
Experience working with youth
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer functions
Knowledge of writing and submitting reports
Additional Requirements
Must be eligible to work in the United States
Must complete and pass a Live-Scan background check and TB screening.
Must commit to 1 day per week facilitation, team check ins, and monthly team meetings.
Should have some availability for BGU events outside of regular weekly programming
Must be available to start by September 9th
Must have reliable transportation
Must be willing to follow COVID-19 protocols outlined by the school district

Candidates will receive an email stating whether or not they have been selected for an interview. Selected candidates will be interviewed via Zoom by BGU’s Founder, Program Director, & Program Coordinator.
If selected to join the BGU Program, Site Facilitators will be required to complete a TB screening and Live Scan prior to official hire, in addition to a welcome orientation. Site Facilitators must be available to begin training and work by September 9th.
